RWC QUARTERFINAL IRISH STREET FESTIVAL & BUS TOUR
After the success of our 2017 Japan vs Ireland Summer Tour we've decided to once again organize a few events for some of the games during the RWC. The Biggest event we’re planning will be the Quarterfinal Street Festival & Bus tour on Saturday Oct 19th OR Sunday Oct 20th. This will depend on Ireland’s final standing in Group A. Family Friendly, All Welcome.
I had been discussing with the Irish embassy about the inclusion of an Irish food booth at the fan-zones. Unfortunately, these fan-zones have quite limited & uncertain facilities for serving food, together with the strict push to sell Heineken it makes it very difficult for a small business like ourselves to attend.
However, 5 years of peddling stew, mashing spuds, baking soda bread, importing beer, supporting, organizing and attending Irish Cultural Events here in Tokyo seems like the perfect practice to take on the responsibility and just go ahead and organize our own festival .
LOCATION: Togoshi Ginza (Outside Kyojin Stewhouse)
DATE: TBD - OCT 19th or 20th (Sat/Sun)
NOTE: date will depend on Ireland’s final group standing fingers crossed we can qualify and perform well in the group
Both games on the 19th & 20th kick off at 19:15 out in Ajinamoto stadium. Perfect timing and the exact same location as our previous rugby tour in 2017.
The longest shotengai (Market street) in Tokyo will close before the game enabling us to have the following:
Live street music performance from my go to musicians. They did a fine job getting the craic going at TJ “The Power” Doheny’s after party when he won the IBF belt last year.
We’ll have a few guest musicians to join the lads
Irish Food and Drink - by staying in Togoshi we can really roll out the best of our Irish Food & Drinks Menu. For example our street booths will certainly be selling Beef & Guinness, Irish Lamb, Dublin Coddle, Seafood chowder, Mashed Potatoes, Soda Bread, Potato Bread, Bailey’s Cheesecakes as well as a street Guinness Tap, Magners and imported Irish craft beer - Maggie’s Leap IPA & Belfast Lager.
Out door tents and seating will be provided by the Togoshi Ginza shotengai community
We’ll have a Parade along the shotengai to were the buses are parked. Marching to the Irish tunes of Sonny & Mikie.
We’ll organize 2 Buses to the game in Ajinomoto Stadium with the option for more if needed.
Buses will take us back into Tokyo after the game for the monster after party at the home of Irish Rugby in Tokyo An Solas.
I’m super excited to pull this off and I’ve faith in the lads to perform well during the group stages so I’ve bought Oct 20th QTR final tickets.
I’ll gladly share more details in due course. To help plan the buses, which will be cost price, please feel free to get in touch to express your interest.
